Bill Edler: From Law to Poker

While some or most professional poker players display their egoistic demeanor at poker tables, Bill Edler remains humble which makes him different from the rest. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why he comes out successful in most of his poker games.

Even the fact that Bill Edler obtained a law degree from the University of California-Berkeley does not make his humility any less. And despite the fact that he can actually make a living out of becoming a lawyer, he still chooses to leave such profession and make professional poker his main source of income.

Born in Evanston, Illinois on November 2, 1964, Bill Edler was introduced to the game of poker when his friends invited him to dinner one fateful night. Right after dinner, he was invited to play poker with them. Such incident made him realize that he wanted to play more, until he came to a decision that he would want to become a professional poker player. Soon thereafter, Bill Edler abandoned his career as a lawyer.

Prior to becoming a professional poker player, Bill Edler was also employed at the Casino San Pablo as a poker room manager for a time. Such job also gave him the opportunity to be more exposed to the world of poker.

The biggest breaks ever experienced by Bill Edler transpired in 2007. When this professional poker player joined the US$5,000 Buy-In Shorthanded No-Limit Hold'em Tournament of the World Series of Poker, he won first place. He was able to receive more than US$900,000 aside from the World Series of Poker bracelet.

In Compton, California, this professional poker player also joined the US$10,000 Buy-In Heads-Up Poker Championship and emerged successful.

This professional poker player also had several money finishes when he participated in the World Poker Tour. Two of the events he participated in were the Bay 101 Shooting Star tournament and the Gulf Coast Poker Championship, where he earned his very first World Poker Tour title. His winnings from the Gulf Coast Poker Championship totaled to US$747,615.

Several times, Bill Edler has also experienced being one of the professional poker players left in the final table. No wonder that as of 2007, this professional poker player has collected more than US$3,250,000 from playing poker alone. Well, he has definitely proven to himself and to the public that abandoning his law career has never been a wrong decision.

Despite being almost addicted to the game of poker, this professional poker player emphasizes that his family is still his top priority. He makes it a point that he has more time for his family than for anything else.
